Euonymus europaeus 'Red Cascade'
Description: Deciduous shrub with lush green leaves in the spring to summer followed by a stunning display of striking red autumn colour. Shocking pink fruit split to reveal orange berries in the late autumn providing a vibrant colour combination. Berries are attractive to birds and are held long after the leaves have fallen. Interesting corky bark also of interest in winter. Brilliant when planted with other plants of winter interest.
Climate / Position: Sun to partial shade.
Height / Spread: Height 4m. Spread 2.5m
Soil Requirements: Tolerant of most soils. Good on chalk and clay. Moist but well drained.
Pruning: None required. Wayward shoots can be pruned in winter to early spring to maintain a healthy framework.
Special Requirements: Plant in groups or with other Euonymus europaeus cultivars where cross pollination will provide a better display of berries in the autumn.
The species is a European native often seen as a hedgerow plant and the wood was traditionally used for making spindles.
