Muehlenbeckia complexa
Description: A fast-growing, twining climber that produces tiny green-white, star-like, scented flowers in late summer. Grow against wires or train up pergolas and pillars. An underused plant as it is low maintenance and versatile but can become invasive so do ensure it is planted where there is plenty of space.
Climate / Position: Prefers full sun with some shelter from cold winds.
Height / Spread: Height 2.5m. Spread up to 5m.
Soil Requirements: Moist but well drained soil.
Pruning: May need some restrictive pruning after flowering. Trim to available space to avoid it becoming invasive and straggly.
Special Requirements: Mulch in winter.
This plant originates in New Zealand and has long been established in the Scilly Isles. It has also become naturalised in some parts of Cornwall. can be used as ground cover on slopes and banks.
