Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue'
Description: Silvery grey foliage in low mounds covered in summer with soft blue pincushion flowers on delicate stems. Noted for flowering over a particularly long period from July to September. A worthwhile addition to any garden and good if grown as a large drift and a deservedly popular variety
Uses: Good at the front of any mixed border. Excellent for attracting wildlife as the plant attracts many insects and in summer sun is covered in butterflies. Also suited to container growing.
Climate/Position: Full sun
Height/Spread: 40 cm x 40 cm
Soil Requirements: Fertile well drained soil preferring slightly alkaline conditions - higher pH
Pruning: Cut back the flowers stems as they finish and further flushes of flowers will continue.
Special Requirements: Divide plants every few years to rejuvenate the plants.
Additional Interest: The name comes from the disease scabies as this was thought to be a remedy for the skin condition.
