Vitis coignetiae
Description: A very vigorous vine noted for the spectacular autumn foliage coloring. The large rounded leaves turn shades of crimson and plum with greenish or yellow veins. Can be grown through large trees or on large structures.
Climate/Position: Full sun to partial shade
Height/Spread: 15 metres but can grow up to 30 metres if given the space and height - ie. through trees.
Soil Requirements: Any well drained soil but shows best autumn colour on poor or chalky soils
Pruning: Best planted where sufficient space to ensure pruning is not required. If trimming stragly pieces then do this after leaf fall.
Special Requirements: Avoid planting in a small garden on trellis where it will quickly outgrow the area.
