Well ½ standards really! Our courtyard area is jammed pack full of ½ standard options ideal as alternatives to Laurus nobilis for a formal look in containers.
We have:
- Arbutus unedo which is ideal for a spot in full sun
- Callistemon citrinus Splendens for something a bit different
- Ligustrum delavayanum an excellent alternative to Buxus
- Elaeagnus x ebbingei with fragrant silver flowers in the spring
- Photinia x fraseri Little Red Robin a compact form of Red Robin with flushes of new red growth in the spring
- Cercis canadensis Forest Pansy which will lift the fantastic heart shaped leaves to head height
- Eriobotrya japonica with its dramatic dark green leaves
- Ilex crenata Kinme, another excellent alternative to Buxus
- Olea europea with loads of options in head size, shape and overall plant form
