Prunus Amanogawa

Prunus Amanogawa

The Flagpole Cherry otherwise known as Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ heralds the arrival of spring with clusters of semi-double soft pink flowers in April /May.

It is not only in the spring that Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ is highly attractive the emerging leaves are bronze green in colour becoming green over the summer and taking on attractive orange and red hues in the  autumn.  The flowers are held tightly to the stem and are slightly fragrant too.

This upright Prunus is an ideal choice for the smaller garden is perfectly columnar in shape reaching 5 m in height and only 1.5m across it can even be planted in small flower borders.   For a dramatic formal look you could also plant as an avenue for something just that little bit different.

For such a delicate looking tree Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ is surprisingly tolerant of pollution and will tolerate most soils.   Prunus do like to be planted in full sun and as a result will need a good watering system installed to aid tree establishment.

We have a wide range of sizes in stock to suit all planting choices and budgets.
