Acers are renowned for their blaze of colour in the autumn months and this particular Acer is very aptly named.
Acer x freemanii ‘Autumn Blaze’ has bright green 3 – 5 lobed leaves that turn an intense red in the autumnal months and really does set a landscape ablaze with the depth of the foliage colour. It is known as one of the best colouring Acers suited to the soils and climate in the UK. Unlike most Acers, this blaze of glory does not require an acidic soil to get the autumn colour.
It has an erect growth habit and has a broad crown once mature. Due to its upright habit Acer x freemanii ‘Autumn Blaze’ can be planted in woodlands, urban spaces, streets, as a specimen tree and looks perfect when planted in Mediterranean style gardens too. When planted in groups it can be particularly effective in the autumn.
It is relatively unfussy in terms of soils and will tolerate both wet and dry soils once established. For the best autumn colour it is best to plant in a sunny position. Reaching a height of 10m – 15m the smooth silvery bark is also attractive at eye level.
We currently have some excellent choices on site that if planted in February will be perfectly settled in to give fantastic colour for this autumn.
