Loud and proud is the best way to describe Toona. Toona Flamingo likes to be the centre of attention. Subtle it isn’t when it comes into leaf with the new foliage emerging bright salmon pink in colour before changing to cream-yellow and then green in the summer months followed by yellow autumn colour. Small fragrant, green-white, cup-shaped flowers appear in the summer which are highly attractive to insects. The peeling bark and foliage are also scented. It is said that the bark is burnt in temples in Asia.
Toona Flamingo has a narrow upright form punctuating through other planting, reaching a height of 15m. Prune lightly after flowering. Flamingo likes full sun and fertile, well-drained soil.
