Skimmia

Skimmia

Skimmia are brilliant shrubs for winter interest.

The tight buds are held in panicles above the evergreen foliage and are a delight in the winter but all is yet to be revealed in the spring when the buds open to display lots of scented flowers.

Ideal for borders and containers.

Skimmia require an ericaceous soil and a good feed after flowering to keep in tip top health.

Here are a few of our top picks:

  • Skimmia japonica ‘Rubella’ is probably the best known of the Skimmia options. Red buds in winter open to pink-white scented flowers.
  • Skimmia japonica ‘White Globe’ is a compact slightly mound forming Skimmia. White flower buds that open to fragrant, lily-scented, white flowers.
  • Skimmia x confusa ‘Kew Green’ has aromatic foliage and a dome shaped habit. Fragrant white flowers in spring.
