A client recently asked what does a Heptacodium do. Here are its highlights. There’s a few so sit tight for a bit!
- Attractive peeling yellow-brown bark. The bark peels off in long strips giving an added dimension to the tree.
- Fragrant creamy- white flowers are freely produced in the summer.
- As the flowers fall bright red to purple calyx remain on the tree extending the season of interest well into late summer.
- Purple-pink fruits are produced in the autumn.
- Foliage colour in the autumn ranges from purple to yellow.
- The leaves have attractive wavy margins.
- Heptacodium are proven to be valuable wildlife food sources for bees and butterflies
- Reaching a height of between 400 to 700cm, Heptacodium are an excellent choice as a statement tree in smaller gardens or large shrubs in larger areas.
- Tolerant of many soil types.
- Can be grown as a small tree or large shrub.
- Great ornamental value.
