- A deciduous fastigiate tree found by Don Shadow, a nurseryman from Tennessee growing wild in the 1990s.
- Dense, alternate, maple-like leaves.
- Green leaves in the spring and summer. Orange leaves through to a purple-red colour in the autumn.
- Full sun/partial shade.
- For best shape, grow in poor soil and don’t feed much - slower growth giving better shape.
- At 30 years old, the original tree was 3m spread.
- No corky fissures on the bark.
- Good handling droughts once established.
- 10 – 18m height.
