Carpinus betulus 'Rockhampton Red'

Carpinus betulus 'Rockhampton Red'

A souped up version of our humble native Hornbeam. 'Rockhampton Red' has fiery orange – red foliage in the autumn rather than the more common yellow. The leaves continue the autumn colour until the end of November when they will turn brown and persist on the tree through the winter.

Densely branched, the head becomes pyramidal/candle shape in maturity.

An excellent choice for many locations including exposed areas. Happy in most soils and tolerant of chalk and damp soils too – very versatile!

Eventual height 6 - 8m, spread 6m.
