A small, ornamental, evergreen, pleached tree with green shoots and oblong, elliptic, dark green, leaves up to 7.5cm long. The leaves are also spine-tipped and have 2 spines on each side.
Ilex ‘Nellie R. Stevens’ has a good, tight habit and bears many fruits. In fact, it is one of the most widely used holly cultivars in the USA for this reason.
In the late spring, petite white flowers appear followed by bird-friendly, orange-red berries.
