Acer japonicum ‘Vitifolium’

As the name suggest Acer japonicum ‘Vitifolium’ has foliage that resembles a Vitis / Grape Vine.

Also otherwise known as Downy Japanese Maple this lovely leaved Acer can be grown as a large shrub or small tree.  The leaves are larger and more deeply cut than most normal cultivars.  Each leaf has 9-11 distinct lobes.  The autumn foliage turns purple, orange and provides a dramatic splash of autumn colour.  Red flowers are produced in march to April but it is the foliage that this Acer is grown for.

Height x spread 4 x 4m.  This particular Acer does best in a slightly sheltered position.
