Hydrangea arborescens. Mid-summer Must-have.

Hydrangea arborescens have certainly seen a surge in interest and breeding in the last few years with ‘Annabelle’ being the first well known arborescens type to hit the suppliers must have list.  The arborescens have rounded heads of flowers with long lasting flower colour.

  • Annabelle: The globular, creamy white flowers are freely produced between July to September and fade to pure white. Great for mid-late summer interest. the balls of flowerheads can reach up to 30cm across.  Height 3m.
  • Pink Annabelle: A great option for a long-lasting display with unique colour pink flowers. Pink Annabelle continues to produce flowers throughout the summer months.  Flowerheads up to 30cm across are borne on strong stems.  Height 1.5m
  • Ruby Annabelle: This delightful choice has all the plus points that you want in an Annabelle and is compact in growth habit to boot.  Large clusters of reddish-pink flowers are freely produced on bushes that reach 1.2m in height.  Ideal for hedges, front of borders and pots.
  • Strong Annabelle / Incrediball:  Has all the qualities of Annabelle but the heads are even larger and the stems slightly more sturdy.
  • Sweet Annabelle: Soft pink coloured flowers that change to green and will continue to produce flowers throughout mid summer to autumn.

Hydrangea arborescens flower on new wood and respond well to a hard prune to base in the late winter / early spring.
