Hydrangea aspera are instantly recognisable from their distinctive hairy leaves. The flowerheads are flat and have a central area of florets that are different in colour to the surrounding flowers. They look decidedly different from the more well-known Hydrangea macrophylla types.
- Hot Chocolate: The undersides of this yummy sounding Hydrangea are burgundy with the upper surface layer chocolate brown that changes to deep green later in the growing season. The central area of florets are blue in colour and are surrounded by pink flowers. Height 2m
- Villosa: Large velvety leaves are held below the flattened heads that are mauve in the centre and surrounded by white flowers. Height 1.5-2m
- sargentiana: Large domes of purple – blue flowers in the central are are surrounded by white flowers. Height 1.25m
