All the way from the USA let us introduce you to the Jack Frost Acers. A new hybrid of Acers that are excellent small ornamental tree choices and above all very cold tolerant. These tough little beauties can go down to -34oC. Perfect for planting at this time of year when Jack Frost comes visiting!
The Acers are a result of crossing Acer palmatum and Acer pseudosieboldianum and are scientifically known as Acer x pseudosieboldianum. These Acers have the elegance of the Acer palmatum branch structure which when combined with the leaf colour and cold hardiness make a classy combination.
Being so cold hardy, these Acers are excellent substitutes for any Acer in harsh cold conditions. The branches tend to start at just above soil level so good ground cover is an added bonus. They are happiest in sun to partial shade.
Acer x pseudosieboldianum Arctic Jade. A broad, upright form. Large green deeply cut leaves that take on dazzling orange end red tones in the autumn. Height 6m. Spread 4m
Acer x pseudosieboldianum Ice Dragon. Slightly weeping form. A delicate looking Acer that belies the hardiness of the tree. The leaves emerge in the spring blushed orange – red and mature to green. In the autumn the leaves become a rainbow of yellow, orange and red. This particular Acer choice is tolerant of sun. Interesting winter branch structure. Height 2.5m. Spread 3m.
Acer x pseudosieboldianum North Wind. The toughest of all the Jack Frost series. An upright form. The leaves emerge red, changing to green in the summer months and dramatic orange and scarlet autumn foliage. Height 6m. Spread 4m.
