Viburnum come into their own in the winter months with clusters of fragrant flowers wafting their scent through the winter days.
Looking truly lovely right now is the Viburnum farreri Candidissimum with its clusters of pure white fragrant flowers on bare stems. This particular Viburnum has an upright erect habit with leaves that emerge pale green, changing to dark green through the growing season and turning purple-red in the autumn. Guaranteed to brighten up the darkest of days.
Another scented winter flowering Viburnum is the better known Viburnum x bodnantense Charles Lamont. Again, an upright erect growing form with pink scented flowers from late autumn through to the spring on bare stems. The leaves are bronze when they emerge in the spring changing to dark green in the growing season.
Both options are excellent for providing scent on a cold winters day and something to enjoy on the dull days of winter.
