Itoh Paeonia are a hybrid cross between herbaceous Paeonies and Tree Paeonies. The result is Itoh Paeonies that have the growth habit of the herbaceous types and exotic blooms of the tree types.
Named after the Japanese breeder that hybridised herbaceous and tree paeonies in the 1940s, Itoh Paeonies are compact in stature, usually between 75 to 100cm with an abundance of flowers, often scented, that are larger than the normal herbaceous paeonies and have a much longer flowering period. Itoh Paeonia are also known as Intersectional Paeonia.
Itoh Paeonies are desirable for the mases of blooms and string stems that require no staking.
