Keep an eye out for

Wet weather, warm weather.  Wet weather, warm weather.  Repeat!

These crazy weather conditions lead to two regular issues at this time of year:

  • Red Thread in turf
  • Buxus Blight

Red Thread  - more info

This is particularly prevalent in newly laid turf as a result of wet weather.  Red thread is a fungal disease that causes red – brown – bleached patches in the lawn especially in wet weather and in lawns that are low in nitrogen.

To prevent Red Thread, keep the lawn cut quite short and feed the lawn with a high nitrogen feed.

Buxus Blight

Much has been written about Buxus blight in the last few years.  This fungal disease causes bare patches and die-back on Box plants and is much more prevalent in warm wet weather that we have had recently.  Buxus Blight can also be caused by watering through the foliage of the plant.

Prevention is better than cure in the case of Buxus Blight and good watering practices, cleaning of tools between jobs and a regular feed with Topbuxus should help to keep Buxus Blight at bay or at least under control.
